Gary Newbold (FCMI, MIFireE, MIFSM, NAFRAR Tier 3)

As the Director of CFE Fire Safety Ltd, I bring 28+ years of dedicated service and expertise within the fire industry, informed by a diverse career that spans military and civilian service.

Before establishing the company, I served as the Head of Fire Risk Assessments and Compartmentation at a large corporate organisation. In this capacity, I was responsible for managing extensive contracts across multiple sectors, including housing, the NHS, education, and commercial industries.

My focus was ensuring that my team delivered top-notch fire safety consultancy and comprehensive reports that adhered to current legislation. This experience honed my ability to oversee large, complex projects and fostered a deep understanding of fire safety regulations and compliance requirements.

My journey in fire safety began with 22 years in the Royal Air Force Fire Service, where I obtained invaluable operational experience, both in the UK and abroad.

Serving as the overseas Fire Safety Officer, I managed safety measures for over 550 buildings and liaised with a personnel count exceeding 4,000. My leadership role at the largest ICAO 8 UK RAF airfield involved managing 77 firefighters to maintain 24/7 operational cover, responsibilities that not only tested my management skills but also reinforced my commitment to rigorous safety protocols.

Among the highlights of my military career were four operational tours in Afghanistan, where I coordinated and mentored local nationals to integrate fire safety measures into their operational framework. This experience was instrumental in enhancing my capabilities to navigate multicultural environments and understand diverse approaches to fire safety.

My final military assignment as the Officer Commanding Quality Assurance and Standards further solidified my foundation in fire safety management. I was tasked with ensuring that training programmes met rigorous operational standards and the latest policy guidelines across the Defence Fire Service.

This role underscored my capacity for strategic oversight and operational excellence, both of which are critical in today’s ever-evolving fire safety landscape.

Key achievements during my career include reaching the rank of RAF Flight Sergeant, which highlights my professional development, leadership acumen, and dedication to service.

I have earned several commendations for my contributions, including the prestigious “Romanian Air Force Emblem of Honor” during a NATO mission in 2018, which recognises the importance of international collaboration in firefighting practices.

Today, at CFE Fire Safety Ltd, I leverage my extensive knowledge and experience in fire safety legislation, particularly the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, to provide comprehensive fire safety solutions.

My approach is characterised by integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to exceeding client expectations.

Angela Newbold

As the Business Operations Director, I bring over 30 years of experience in contract management, project coordination, and customer service across diverse sectors including local government, training, health, education, and fire safety.

Being a Royal Air Force wife for 22 years and a mum of three young children has honed my co-ordination skills and resilience. It’s been a wonderful journey, and I’ve learned to ensure timely contract deliveries, foster effective client communications, and deliver exceptional service. My friendly and positive approach has been key to building strong, lasting working relationships.

Now, as the family has grown up and with Gary at the helm of CFE Fire Safety Ltd, I am extremely proud to lead the daily business operations of the company. It’s incredibly fulfilling to contribute to a company that prioritises safety and quality.
